Photosynthesis & Plants Terms:

1. Xylem: Dead cells that transport water
2. Epidermal cells: These cover and protect the leaf
3. Stomata: This word means mouth.  It enables gas exchange and regulates water loss
4. Mesophyll cells: This is the plant's primary site of photosynthesis
5. Cuticle: A waxy layer on the leaf that prevents water loss.
6. Phloem: These are living cells.  The function of the phloem is to transport nutrients to the rest of the leaf
7. Guard cells: These control the opening and closing of the stomata
